Accessing an Access Database in VB

I have 2 programs, the first one I have a problem in that i need to Access and load the last 15,000 entrys from my Access database. I dont know how to get the last number of the database without putting in a counter and going through the long way which will be impractical as the database will eventually be very large. I need to find the last number of the Databse, subtract 15,000, this is then the starting point for loading the data into the program. This program succeslfully loads from the Access database. The second program saves data onto a database when testing but cant do it when its live from an API cause the connection is not open and i cant sort this out.
