I need a Delphi VCL ComboBox control that uses an event to get items from the string list, instead of using its own string list.
The main reason for this is performance. This control will be used in a situation where many thousands of items will be loaded in the list, and the control will frequently be destroyed and recreated.
The Virtual ComboBox must support the same user interface functions as a standard ComboBox. Especially important are: AutoComplete, the csDropDown style,, DropDownCount.
Ideally, the Virtual ComboBox would use a method like this for initialization:
[login to view URL](const ItemCount : Integer);
Where ItemCount is the number of items in the virtual list.
The control would have an event for retrieving strings from the list AS NEEDED ONLY. Again, this control CAN NOT create a copy of the entire string list, as this would defeat the purpose of the control being a virtual! This event might look something like this:
[login to view URL](Sender: TObject; const ItemIndex : Integer; var ItemText : String)
This is to be a Delphi 2006 VCL component. I require full source, of course, so that it can be compiled for future Delphi releases.
My preference is to have the Virtual ComboBox control inherit from the standard VCL ComboBox control.
