I need to generate a citation report for my publications. A citation report is a list of all the publications (journal articles, conference papers, workshop papers, technical reports, theses, and unpublished works) that cite my papers. The report should be written in LaTeX and the citations should be properly organized in BibTeX. ## Deliverables I attach the current version of the citation report. As you can see, I have a separate file for each paper and the citations for each paper are listed within each section. Each citation needs to be marked as conference, journal, workshop, thesis, or unpublished. The BibTeX entries should be properly entered following the existing formatting conventions: * For consistency, the names of journals, conferences, and workshops are defined using the @STRING{} command in the [login to view URL] file. If a name is already defined, please use it. If the conference is already listed and you see previous years (e.g., for 2005) define the new name using the @STRING command just under the existing names. If you do not see the conference, workshop, or journal listed, then add the name at the end of the file, and mark in the comments that this is a new addition. * The bibtex key for a conference and workshop paper is [conference shortcut][2-digit year]/[lastname of first author] For example, for a paper published by John Smith at the ACM SIGMOD 2001 conference, the bibtex key is "sigmod01/smith" (without the quotes). These entries are entered using the @INPROCEEDINGS bibtex entry. * The bibtex key for a journal article is [journal shortcut]/[lastname of first author][2-digit year]. For example, for a paper published by John Smith in 2005 at the ACM Transacations on Database Systems, the bibtex entry is tods/smith05 * For the other entries (theses, techreports, misc, unpublished, book) just look at the respective attached bib files and follow the same format. * Enter the FULL names of the authors. Do not abbreviate the first name. If you cannot find the first name, look at the PDF of the paper and identify the first name of the author (alternatively, use the IEEE or the ACM Digital Library to find the first name of the author). If you cannot find the first name of the author even after trying, then put a period (.) after the name of the author. If you locate a current entry in the bibtex files that does not contain the first name of the author, fix the entry by either filling in the name of the author, or by putting a period. (E.g., "P Ipeirotis" should become "Panagiotis Ipeirotis" or at least "P. Ipeirotis" if you really cannot find the name of the author) * Verify whether the paper that you found is a journal, workshop, or conference paper. There is nothing more annoying that finding a workshop paper listed as a journal paper. (There are cases like this in the current bibtex entries, leftovers from the previous version of the citation report) * The Bibtex entries should follow the style of the existing bibtex entries. This means that the strings with the authors, booktitles, journalnames and so on are entered using quotes, NOT using braces. In other words, the entry AUTHOR = "Panagiotis G. Ipeirotis" is acceptable. The entry AUTHOR = {Panagiotis G. Ipeirotis} is not. * Do not forget to separate the authors in the AUTHOR field using the "and" word (AUTHOR = "Panagiotis G. Ipeirotis and Luis Gravano") * The required fields for an ARTICLE entry include author and title of the paper, name of the journal, volume, number, year, month and pages. No need for publisher. * The required fields for an INPROCEEDINGS entry include author and title of the paper, BOOKTITLE, year, and pages. No need for location of the conference. The current version of the citation report was constructed a few months back, and while it was a good effort, there are small problems (incorrecly classified entries, wrong keys, wrong author names, and so on). Furthermore, I should clarify that the current citation report is highly incomplete. New entries should be identified and entered in the report. The searching strategy for locating new entries should be the following: 1. Go to Google Scholar and enter the query "author: p-ipeirotis". For each of the returned papers, click the "Cited by ..." link and identify the articles discovered by Google Scholar. Identify the type of the paper (journal, conference, workshop, and so on). Check to see if the entry appears already in the attached bibtex files. If yes, check correctness of the current bibtex entry and fix if necessary. Once the bibtex entry is in place, enter the appropriate citation entry in the LaTeX citation report, using the \cite command. Mark the entry as journal, conference, and so on, and mark if it is a self- citation. 2. Once you are done with the Google Scholar entries, proceed and check the ACM Digital Library and the "Citings" for each of the papers. 3. Afterwards, search Google (general web) to identify papers that are not captured by Google Scholar. The first search strategy is to search using the keyword "ipeirotis". After you locate papers, proceed as in the case of Google Scholar for verifying correctness, and so on. Search also other search engines: Yahoo Search, MSN Live, Ask.com. Using a metasearch engine like Vivisimo is a good idea if you prefer not to search each engine individually. 4. The web search using the keyword "ipeirotis" is often not comprehensive. A better alternative is to query the web using parts of the titles of the papers. For example, search for the phrase ["Approximate String Joins"] (include the quotes) to identify papers that mention the VLDB2001 paper "Approximate String Joins in an RDBMS (Almost) for Free". Perform similar web searches for all the papers that appear in my publications page ([login to view URL]~panos/[login to view URL]) 5. I attach the files that can be used to start the report. The [login to view URL] shows how to build the citation report. The file [login to view URL] and the [login to view URL] are almost correct, although the entries will need to be checked for correctness (if they are workshop, conferences, journals, and so on + if the entries are correct). The [login to view URL] is almost a placeholder, and the [login to view URL] entries are not categorized. The person who takes on this project will have to check, of course, for further citations for these 4 entries, plus create entries for all the other papers in my publication list. To speed-up the process, I attach some files from a previous report. The entries in these files should give a good head start but, again, should be checked for correctness, and you should search for further citations as outlined above. In summary, the deliverables: 1. The updated BibTeX files with all the papers that reference my work. The BibTeX file should follow the style guidelines that I list above. I attach the [login to view URL] file with the bibtex entries that demonstrate the style that the coder should follow. 2. A report written in LaTeX file that will list, for each of my papers, the papers that cite my paper using the appropriate BibTeX references (point 1). I attach the file [login to view URL] that give a starting example for the report. For convenience, I attach a list of TeX/BibTeX files that contain a few of the citations. These file is VERY rough, and need considerable polishing, and cleaning. However, they are a good starting point. ## Platform LaTeX, BibTeX. I should be able to compile the latex file using the latex/bibtex version on MikTex.
