1. Dynamic Toolbar will need to build its interface and functionality at run-time from data stored in a small file (1.2 kilobytes or less) that resides on the server. This means that if you update the bar, you will need about five minutes to edit the configuration file, and you will not have to do any programming or recompiling. Every bar installed in users’ browsers is automatically updated. 2. You will need to easily manage different languages from the configuration file for a single bar. When you add a new language to the configuration file, users will be able to select it from the Options menu. Individual bars with a specific language configuration can also be managed by renaming the dynamic-link library (DLL) and creating a new configuration file for 3. The graphic images that Dynamic Toolbar will use are downloaded from the server and cached on the user’s hard drive. Hence, you can easily update the visual appearance of the toolbar by replacing the images in the configuration file. Each installed toolbar needs to updates itself automatically. 4. Dynamic Toolbar needs to provide a mechanism for online Web installation, upgrades, and uninstall, without the need of an additional setup program. Clean update and uninstall need to be ensured (no conflict folders are created as can happen with other toolbars). 5. The toolbar options will be modified by the user through a Web page, inside Internet Explorer. It will need to communicate with the DLL 6. Dynamic Toolbar will have Windows XP theme (or skins) ready. It will need the same background and button style as Internet Explorer’s standard toolbars. 7. New buttons can be added to launch an external program or a file from the toolbar. 8. Buttons will need to be changed dynamically from the bar by selecting an option from the menu. 9. Bitmaps can be added alongside menu items from drop-down menus in much the same way as buttons can be altered. 10. Dynamic Toolbar needs to supports bitmap sizes other than 16 x 16 pixels on the toolbar buttons; however, only the button width can be changed. Moreover, all buttons on a toolbar must be the same width (note that bitmaps in drop-down menus are fixed at 16 x 16 pixels). 11. The toolbar needs to have auto-update system. Users are notified when an update is made to the toolbar’s DLL. To ensure a flawless update, a warning is issued if more than one instance of Internet Explorer is opened.
