Hello, I'm experienced linux system administrator. Sounds like a very interesting project. As I can see you want to use one proxy server and three synchronized web-servers behind it. Do you need load balancing or just only HA cluster? What additional technologies will you be using aside from Apache, MySQL and Plesk? (maybe some python modules or nosql databases and so on) How many websites will you have?

There is no need to have 4 nodes as described on given diagram. Only three of them will be sufficient. As you require to use plesk for managing your domains, one node should be setup with apache, mysql and plesk (let say node003 on your diagram). Node004 will have public IP and act as load balancer (nginx or haproxy) also as a proxy to plesk. Node002 will act as mirrored node replicated from node003 (master-master replication for mysql, lsyncd or unison for syncing files). But as I can see there will be some difficulties such as: - is plesk license restricted to IP? - mange to restart apache on mirrored node002 when new host added (at least this, other issues can pops up also) How many sites do you plan to host? Is plesk really needed? Besides mentioned issues installing this on debian will not take much time (2-3 days). If plesk will not needed, we can setup 4-nodes setup like: 2 nodes for mysql, 2 nodes for apache (one of them will serve load balancer also).
