This project is about building a website in the spirit of [login to view URL] or [login to view URL]: it’s a deposit of links that when clicked take you to the original homepage. Each link will correspond to a post, and is represented graphically by a tile, with an image, a title, the name of the original website.
So instead of building pages or posts, every post/page will consist of an url, a photo, categories, the source, that when clicked on it will go to the original website.
(so from the home page, there will be a list of tiles, when clicked will direct immediatly to the url)
The version 1, baseline of the website needs to consider two separate parts:
1) Back End Structure:
- The “ link engine” is the piece of technology that transforms a list of links into the actual tiles on the website. One post/tile per link.
- The “ link engine” should be able to extract the list of links that are stored in a google documents spread sheet.
- After each extraction (every few hours) it should start over where it finished.
- The link engine should not add links to the website that have already been added before.
- There are 6 Collumns in the google docs spreadsheet: Date, Title of Article, First Paragraph, Link to a photo, categories, link.
- The link engine should create a new post/tile for each line of google docs. It should extract all of the info into the database. (the date and paragraph are optional to be extracted as they won’t be used in the tile post)
- The photo should be resized and hosted in the website, not call the external website.(photo size in theme definitions bellow)
- The tile window will then have: the photo, the title of article, and the name of the website (to be extracted from the url). When clicked on the tile it should redirect to the url extracted.
- When there is no photo link, there should be a list of fall back photos that the link engine will use.
- Each tile should be organized according to the categories extracted from google docs.
- All the posts in one category should be reachable in one URL. example: [login to view URL]
IMPORTANT: in a phase II there will be some posts/pages hosted on the website. So there should still be the option to create a standard post/page with content hosted on the website, like any normal website.
Front End:
- Website should be hosted in Wordpress (give me good reasons not to) and the theme to use is the style ( [login to view URL] )
- See in attachment a rough mockup of the spirit of the website. (think pininterest to see the idea)
- Main change to do on the theme is to make it RESPONSIVE. Mobile, tablet and different sizes of desktop screens.
- Some design changes requested from the start:
1)In place of category name put the name of website, parsed from URL.
2) Remove Date, posted by, and introductory paragraph.
3) Increase font of menu and center it.
4) Increase size of search bar and center it, above of the menu line
5) Add background landscape photo above the menu line and under the search menu
6) A menu symbol (3 horizontal bars) should be added to the top right part of the website to access pages hosted in the website (about page for instance)
