Hi there! I'm building content for a career discovery blog that features a day in the life stories from different professionals. The blog is intended to reveal what interesting creative professionals really do at work every day. I'd love to feature a first-person narrative written from your point of view. This is not a fictional story. The piece should be a narrative about your real day:) You can choose to write about a day in your life as an amazing freelancer , or you can choose to write about another job you have outside Freelancer. Please note that I'd love to publish your narrative under your real name. I'll also be happy to include any social links you might like to include in your profile (e.g Twitter, Linkedin, Blogs, etc) so future traffic may be directed towards you as well. Placing a face behind the story will add a human touch and a stamp of authenticity for readers:) If you'd like to learn more I'd love to set up a quick call/ Skype to tell you more about this project. Please check out the attached Creative Brief for details about the format of this piece. The doc also contains a sample narrative written by another professional about his day. The sample narrative features a full day (morning to night). You can choose to only write about your work day — although including morning and evening rituals are great to haves:) Fee: This is a passion project right now so I don't have a huge budget — $40. But I'll be happy to direct future traffic towards you once the site is up. Plus you'll have a personal tour guide if you ever visit SF! The narrative should include: 1000-1200 words Your profile photo 6-8 high-quality images to go along with your narrative. The photos should be real images from your work day. Hi, My name is Erin Cotter. I would be perfect to write this blog post for you. I just had one of the more interesting days in my freelance career. To begin I woke up late, after being up until almost three searching for free products to test on one of my blogs. I was late in my morning ritual, but went about my ritual slightly different from usual. I wound up sitting in the lobby of a hotel I had not been in since I attended dragon con almost 5 years ago, drinking a coffee from caribou coffee instead of inside Starbucks like usual. I opened my podcast, and to my surprise the first thing I heard was my name being featured on the podcast for an article I had written a earlier in the week. I was so surprised. I emailed one of my old journalism colleagues, who is embarking on a project to go live in a van, and then posted the review on Facebook, where I connected with my photographer and mutual friend, who was covering a trump rally in the city that day. Later, I connected with the speaker from the podcast and then finished a freelance assignment, and finished my second ever batch of home-cooked black beans. They cooked all day long and had been set out to soak all night before. I also have pictures of my day. And can go into a lot better description in the post. I am a freelance writer and editor as well as an actress. I am the Associate Editor of a daily, online publication and I'm also coming to the end of a Master's program at the University of Oxford. I think the idea of a career discovery blog is a wonderful one because a lot of flexible professions sound really dreamy in theory and the reality is that they are very demanding in a way that many people may not anticipate. It certainly requires much more discipline, creativity, innovation and resilience than just showing up and having someone else provide the tasks and the direction and the insurance. Here is what my intro paragraph (prior to the hourly breakdown of a day) might sound like: It’s a romantic notion; the idea of being a self-made person, making your own hours, traveling whenever you want and for as long as you want, going to work in your pajamas, having your only traffic on the morning commute be your dog standing in the hallway between your bedroom and workspace. Let me tell you, that is the life. But it is also a life where flexibility and freedom can be your downfall. Your ability to be productive and excellent and continue to push yourself when no one else is there to push you depends on your ability to make your own routine, set regular goals and be accountable to yourself and to others even when they are not physically present.
