The information below describes a potential web application for a healthy eating business, along with a number of design tasks.
Requirements
eatFast is a not for profit organisation offering healthy eating options to busy consumers. eatFast provides a web application that allows shoppers to plan to cook low calorie meals as part of their regular online shopping. This allows one or more members of a family or shared living space to go on a diet, while allowing others to enjoy the “normal” food they like.
The core functionality that eatFast offers is the ability to find and potentially modify recipes for meals that can be eaten as part of regular reduced calorie or “fast” days. This functionality is available to all users of the application. Once a recipe has been tailored to the likes of a family (virtual or otherwise) and the ingredients that they may already have in the fridge or cupboard, a revised list of ingredients and cooking instructions is produced.
Casual users of eatFast can get their low calorie recipe emailed to them as can registered users. In addition to this, registered users can save their tailored recipes and have any missing ingredients added to the shopping basket of their favourite online store. Registered users can also share their recipes via any social media account that they provide registeration details of, such as Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest.
Selecting and tailoring a recipe starts with the user entering a free text search string. Matching recipes are returned as a list of search results along with a range of controls to allow the researching or filtering of the results. These controls include the original free text box and filtering by principle ingredients, starting calorie content, and type of cuisine. When the user selects a recipe they are presented with a list of the ingredients. They can then vary the total number of portions required, change the quantity of individual ingredients, or add/delete/ substitute one ingredient for another. Whenever a change is made, the ingredient list and total calorie count are updated. Once the recipe has been adjusted to the users satisfaction it can be emailed, saved or shared as described above, depending on the type of user.
