GIS Data capture is one of the skills required in order to have your raw data upon which you can perform your preferred spatial analysis for better informed decision making. Shapefile data capture form secondary data such as maps may only achieved through digitization of the features on the maps, these may be point data to represents information on boreholes, line data to represent information on road and polygon data to represent information on boundaries such as County boundary or Lakes. For successful capturing of these data sets, crucial for GIS data is that that the data is georeferenced and is within the preferred projection. Storage of the shapefiles is also crucial probably within an ESRI Geodatabase for ease in access and retrieval of the digitized data. Digitized data without its subsequent attribute information may not be of use to the end user as this may only represent geometry properties alone. Metadata information is important as well as this will give the end user with details on properties such as Co-ordinate and Projection properties of the captured/digitized spatial data. At the end of this exercise if successfully selected to undertake the work, the client will not only end up with digitized/captured spatial data but also with general attribute information available form the maps and also metadata on all the shapefiles but also chronological organized data within a database.
