Dissect Windows application to learn how it works

Greetings, I have an interesting challenge for the right candidate. There is a particular application for the windows operating system that does a very specific task: accepts user input, rips a media disc to a file format, and uploads it all to a server. I am looking for someone that is proficient in opening up this software and taking a peek at its inner workings. I want to learn exactly how it accomplishes what it does, as I eventually want to achieve the same process in my own application. The software file is an executable file and is freely available to the public. Ideally, I'm looking for someone that is also a strong windows software developer, who, once understanding how this software works, can help me achieve the same processes in the development of my own application. Alternatively, if you are a cocoa developer for osx, that is also acceptable. Before you ask questions, this is a 100% legal task as I have permission from the software developer to learn to processes of the software. I simply do not have the background in knowing how to do so, that is where you come in.
